Computers for Youth's mission is to close the learning gap between low-income children and their more affluent peers by improving the home learning environment. Our approach includes three powerful elements:
Computers Designed as Family Learning Centers. CFY partners with public schools in low-income communities and offers all 6th grade families a home computer with educational software, Internet access and web content. Participating families attend a half-day training on the computer they then take home.
Parent Workshops and Teacher Training. CFY coordinates workshops to help parents become better learning partners and trains teachers to use home technology to improve student performance.
Educational Software for the Home. CFY helps improve the quality of home-based educational software by identifying the best up-and-coming products and then increasing their visibility among school districts, investors, and others in the industry. CFY is now accepting nominations for our Family Learning Software Award.

CFY has become one of the largest non-profits of its kind, serving thousands of families each year.
